-BRAIDING
BOOKS-

BRAIDING FINE LEATHER,
TECHNIQUES OF THE AUSTRALIAN WHIPMAKERS
(David Morgan)-This
is a great book by Morgan that gives an intro into braiding leather in
general and not so much to do with whip making as it does not describe how
to make a whip and that is the same exact thing with the other Morgan
book. (the books are great they just don't tell how to make whips) But the
Morgan books do help you with your braiding, It describes what tools you
need to cut the leather and which part of the leather is best to cut from.
It also shows diagrams of tools that you can make for cheap that help
speed up your braiding and make it better. This is a very good book for reference
if you are just starting out, I highly recommend it. But keep in mind that
you can only make a whip when this book is combined with Ron Edwards book,
and cant learn how to make one from this book it self. |

WHIPS &
WHIPMAKING BY:
David
Morgan-This book gives a good background about whips and
what they have been used for and what there purpose is. It talks about
bullwhips to bullock whips and gives a good explanation of how a whip
cracks and what the inside of a whip is made up of. It also shows a few
basic plaiting formations like the 4 plait. But this book in no way will
tell you haw to make a whip, but teach you about whips and there history
and about the general art of braiding. |

HOW TO MAKE
WHIPS BY: Ron Edwards-
I really love this book if fully covers how to make your first whip from
cutting the hides to how to do a Turks head knot. The whips it explains
the most in this book would really be the basic 4 and 6 plait whips which
are the easiest to make for a beginner in whipmaking. The weakest point in
this book would probably be about making a bullwhip. He really does not
explain how the handle and the thong are attached and how the whip forms a
taper. But if you are just starting out in whipmaking this is definitely
the book to get because if you are just starting you definitely should
just start out with a basic 4 plait stock whip. This book overall gives
great explanations and has great diagrams. The title says it all! |

LEATHERCRAFT TOOLS, HOW TO USE THEM HOW TO SHARPEN
THEM BY: Al Stohlman- Well this book is great, it tells how to use all
kinds of Leathercraft tools. From a skiving tool to a awl it tells all. A
must have for any leather crafter ( that includes whipmaking even though I
believe I might expand my hobby from more than just whips)
